Firefighting effort successful; power outage no longer anticipated.
The Eagle River Water & Sanitation District and Upper Eagle Regional Water Authority have canceled the water supply emergency that was issued for their entire service area (East Vail through Cordillera).
The supply emergency was issued late Sunday evening, July 8, as the Red Canyon Fire near Wolcott threatened power lines that could have caused an extended power outage in the district and authority’s service area. Loss of power would have affected the ability to pump water to tanks, especially in neighborhoods above the valley floor.
Firefighter efforts were successful in keeping the Red Canyon Fire away from power lines and officials reported further threat to power lines was no longer anticipated as of 11 p.m. Sunday, July 8. With no threat of an extended power outage, water system pumping is operating normally. Should power be threatened again, the district and authority will reissue a water supply emergency.
The district and authority remind community members of the year-round water use regulations, which include the outdoor water use schedule, as follows:
• Monday: No outdoor water use.
• Tues/Thurs/Sat: Addresses ending in ODD numbers may water.
• Wed/Fri/Sun: Addresses ending in EVEN numbers may water.
• Water before 10 a.m. OR after 4 p.m. on your watering day.
