The Eagle River Water & Sanitation District has four pickup trucks and a 1-ton cargo van up for sale using the Public Surplus online auction service. Bidding opened at 8 a.m. Dec. 8 and closes at 6 p.m. Dec. 18.
Using Public Surplus reduces district costs associated with selling used assets. Fleet and facilities maintenance coordinator Gusty Kanakis says it also broadens the buyer pool, which helps ensure the best value out of used vehicles and equipment. “As a local government, we’re accountable for the public funds used to deliver water and wastewater services. It’s our goal to provide these essential functions at a reasonable cost to our taxpayers and ratepayers,” said Kanakis. Recovering costs from used vehicles reduces overall replacement costs.
Auction items were used in everyday operations and were regularly maintained. District vehicles are replaced after about 110,000 miles. Where mileage isn’t relevant, equipment age or hours are a deciding factor.
Kanakis manages the auction and is available through the Public Surplus website for questions. Bidders may arrange to inspect auction items between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, by contacting Kanakis at 970-477-5429. Test drives are not allowed for insurance reasons.
