March 29, 2023

1:30 p.m. Mar. 31, 2023, FINAL UPDATE

The repair is complete and water service has been fully restored. Please see information below about entrapped air or sediment and how to flush your lines. Please use caution in the area. Due to inclement weather, backfill and cleanup operations will be completed next week. Road repairs will take place next week, weather permitting, in coordination with the town of Avon.

5:30 p.m. Mar. 30, 2023, update

Today, District staff located the pipe and leak and determined that additional materials are needed for the repair. Water service will be returned to properties through the evening but will continue to be low pressure. Impacted properties should refrain from using high water-use appliances like dishwashers and washing machines until full water service is restored.

There will be another temporary water service outage at 8 a.m. on Mar. 31. Staff will be onsite until repairs are completed. Impacted properties have been notified and have been asked to move vehicles from the street back into driveways and garages for the night.

To prepare for a temporary water service outage, fill a bathtub or large bucket with water for hand washing and toilet flushing, and fill several pitchers for drinking or cooking needs. To flush a toilet during a water outage, pour a bucket of water into the bowl all at once. Learn how by watching a short video at https://youtu.be/Grnk9p9P7Qk.

Once the repair is complete, crews will reopen valves on the water main to restore water service. Properties may temporarily experience low water pressure until water lines refill. A temporary outage normally entraps some air in the water distribution system, which can cause water to have a cloudy appearance. It also stirs up sediment in water mains that may briefly cause discolored water. The water is safe to drink.

To clear your pipes of entrapped air and discoloration, run cold water faucets that do not have a screen, such as those in tubs or an outside spigot. Flush your lines until the water runs clear.
