Eagle River Water & Sanitation District is doing its part to meet Eagle County’s Climate Action Plan goal of 80% greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction by 2050 to help ensure a livable and sustainable future for all. In 2023, the District worked with a consultant, Carollo Engineers, to develop a GHG emissions inventory tool for its operations. This tool was implemented in 2024 to track GHG emissions and help create efficiencies to support our mission of operating in a manner that respects the natural environment.
Data from 2023 was compared to baseline data from 2019, showing a 15% reduction in net GHG emissions over this 5-year period (2,882 metric tons CO2e to 2,449 metric tons CO2e). When data is compared to GHG emissions prior to 2019, it shows that the District is already meeting the Climate Action Plan target for 2050 and has reduced total GHG emissions by approximately 80% (12,600 metric tons CO2e to 2,449 metric tons CO2e).
This reduction was achieved mainly by participation in Holy Cross Energy’s (HCE’s) PuRE program; the District contributed approximately $600,000 to HCE for renewable energy development through PuRE since 2019.
