7 p.m., Apr. 16, 2023
Water service was restored about 6:30 p.m.
Properties may temporarily experience low water pressure until water lines refill. A temporary outage normally entraps some air in the water distribution system, which can cause water to have a cloudy appearance. It also stirs up sediment in water mains that may briefly cause discolored water. The water is safe to drink. To clear your pipes of entrapped air and discoloration, run cold water faucets that do not have a screen, such as those in tubs or an outside spigot. Flush your lines until the water runs clear.
Crews will remain onsite until about 8 p.m. for cleanup activities, including partially backfilling the excavation site and securing the area. They will return at 7:30 a.m., Monday, Apr. 17 to continue cleanup.
Holy Cross Energy will be onsite Monday to assess their power lines.
Paving of the excavated area will occur in May, after asphalt plants become operational, and is weather dependent. The site will be topped off with gravel until final asphalt paving can occur.
1:30 p.m., Apr. 16, 2023
Crews have exposed the pipe and are continuing to dig to locate the leak. Staff will stay onsite until the leak is located and will then prep for repair. Due to high-voltage power lines within the excavation area, crews may have to wait to start repair until power is shut off for safety on Mon. Apr. 17.
Water service is likely to remain off into Mon. Apr. 17, 2023.
Bottled drinking water is available with district staff on site.
The Marriott Streamside has graciously agreed to allow use of its shower facilities by affected residents and guests. Showers will be available from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. People affected by the water outage should go to the registration area to sign in and provide their name and property address. Marriott Streamside is located by the West Vail roundabout at 2284 South Frontage Rd. W.
Affected residents may also bring refillable containers, buckets, and jugs to fill up and bring home. Water from a bucket or jug can be used for hand washing, toilet flushing or for drinking or cooking needs.
To flush a toilet during a water outage, pour a bucket of water into the toilet bowl all at once (learn how by watching this short video) or fill the tank for regular flushing.
9 a.m., Apr. 16, 2023
Crews are back onsite and beginning excavation to expose the pipe. Excavation will be slow and careful due to underground, high-voltage power lines within the excavation area.
Water service will remain off until the repair has been completed.
8:30 p.m., Apr. 15, 2023
Work has finished for today. Barriers and fencing are in place around the dig site.
Crews will return at 8 a.m. Sunday, Apr. 16, to continue excavating to expose the pipe.
Water service will remain off per the information in the 4:45 p.m. update. Showers and access to a faucet are available at Marriott Streamside, per the information in the 6:15 p.m. update.
6:15 p.m., Apr. 15, 2023

4:45 p.m., Apr. 15, 2023
Water service will remain off overnight and possibly into Monday due to underground high-voltage power lines located within the excavation area.
Careful, slow excavation work will continue this evening while conditions allow.
Crews will return at 8 a.m. Apr. 16, to continue excavating to locate the leak. Depending on the nature of the leak and whether a power line must be shutdown to safely repair the water pipe, the repair could be delayed until Monday. Holy Cross Energy is aware of this possibility and will do a planned power outage on Monday, Apr. 17, if needed.
3 p.m., Apr. 15, 2023
Due to difficult excavation work, the repair will not be completed tonight, and water service will remain off overnight.
Crews will work into the evening while it is safe to do so; they will not remain overnight due to winter weather conditions and safety concerns.
