Annual water testing results show high quality, safe drinking water in Vail, EagleVail, Avon and Edwards areas
Drinking water provided by the Eagle River Water & Sanitation District and the Upper Eagle Regional Water Authority is high quality, according to the recently released 2014 Consumer Confidence Reports.
The reports are required by federal regulations and detail how water is collected from its natural source, treated to be safe to drink, and delivered to customers by the two public water systems. The 2014 reports for both the district and authority water systems highlight the results of thousands of water quality tests that are performed during the course of any year and show that drinking water from the district and authority surpasses all federal and state drinking water standards.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, regulates drinking water in Colorado. Public water systems must conduct rigorous monitoring and testing and regularly report results to regulators. The district and authority had no violations during the required monitoring period, Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2014.
The bottled water industry, regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, is not required to disclose the results of any contaminant testing that it conducts.
“It’s important for consumers to know about the water they drink,” said water manager Brian Tracy. “The federal Safe Drinking Water Act requires community water systems to issue a report like this every year and a lot of the required wording is unfamiliar to people. Therefore, we encourage community members to contact us with questions.”
The two water systems use Gore Creek, the Eagle River, and various groundwater wells as source water. That water is treated using advanced filtration and disinfection processes that ensure the water in the public water system is clean, safe, and reliable. The systems are monitored 24-hours per day by a highly trained staff of water professionals who use specialized technology to deliver clean, filtered tap water to customers.
The district and authority are public entities – local governments that provide water utility services from East Vail through Cordillera. The district provides water service to the town of Vail and manages operations for the Upper Eagle Regional Water Authority, which provides water service to Arrowhead, Avon, Bachelor Gulch, Beaver Creek, Berry Creek, Cordillera, EagleVail and Edwards.
