Our Organization
Eagle River Water & Sanitation District (District) is a local government responsible for the public water systems and wastewater treatment system that serve communities in the eastern half of Eagle County, Colorado; roughly Vail to Cordillera.
The District is a Colorado Special District that was formed July 1, 1996, with the consolidation of Upper Eagle Valley Consolidated Sanitation District and the Vail Valley Consolidated Water District. The District’s service area encompasses approximately 54,000 acres in Eagle County.
Sewage collection and treatment is provided for the towns of Vail, Minturn, and Avon, as well as Edwards area communities, Beaver Creek, and Eagle-Vail.
The District owns, operates, and maintains the public water system that serves the Town of Vail. In addition, the District is contracted by Upper Eagle Regional Water Authority (Authority) to operate and maintain the public water system that serves the metropolitan districts of Arrowhead, Bachelor Gulch, Beaver Creek, Berry Creek, Cordillera, Eagle-Vail, and Edwards, along with the Town of Avon.
The District is governed by a publicly elected seven-member board of directors who conduct the public business of the District.
The Authority, also a local government, is governed by an appointed six-member board of directors. The Authority is comprised of six member entities – the metropolitan districts of Arrowhead, Beaver Creek, Berry Creek, Eagle-Vail, and Edwards, as well as the Town of Avon – each of which appoints one Director to the board.
District staff implements the policies and procedures as set by the boards and conducts the daily operations of the District and the Authority.
